Pass The Limes
Summer is not for everyone.
The heat...the humidity....the swarming bugs.
But I actually love it.
I crave the heat so much that I seek it out all year long.
I'm a yogi. A hot yogi at that.
I have been practicing Bikram Hot Yoga in a room heated to 105 degrees for 90 minutes several times a week for the past eleven years.
Yep, I'm one of the crazy ones.
I might contribute this love affair with hot yoga to my intense dance training or my desire for peace and calm on the yoga mat, but it goes much deeper than that.
For me, sweating reduces the inflammation in my body....dramatically.
My cells don't do a great job at eliminating harmful metabolites like heavy metals and solvents without the added support of...sweat.
With a massive decreased burden on my liver due to the increased elimination through the skin, I experience mostly symptom-free summers that give me relief like no other time in the year.
What have I learned after thousands of hot yoga sweat sessions?
Hydration rules the world.
Dehydration is a mistake for me because…it hurts.
My yoga gives me a grand responsibility to nourish my body.
And my go-to electrolyte cocktail is so simple, delicious, and nourishing: lime juice and a pinch of salt.
That’s it.
Anything that makes my body work better is something I cherish.
Hydrate. Sweat. Rinse. Repeat.
